Wazoo Survival Gear started as a hobby in 2008 that generated enough interest to make a facebook page in 2010. The term Survival Bracelet seemed like overkill for a piece of string on your wrist. We decided to make a product worthy of the name!

The feedback from customers and supporters encouraged us to turn it into a full-fledged Limited Liability Company on August 22, 2011. We work with Search and Rescue teams across the country, NASA engineers and material scientists, and the survival community to continually improve our products.

Our goal is to save lives. We strive to offer the highest quality, most practical survival kits on the market. We build survival kits inside everyday items that you'd have it with you at all times. After all, a survival kit doesn't do you any good if you don't have it with you when you need it! Our products are one way of achieving our life saving goal, but we don't stop there. A portion of all profits go back to funding non-profit Search And Rescue (SAR) organizations. These are the volunteers that will be deployed to come rescue you in your time of need. That's right, volunteers. These people dedicate hundreds of hours of their time and thousands of their hard earned dollars to train, certify, and aquire all the skills and equpment need to save your life. Wazoo Survival Gear proudly supports these organizations and their selfless volunteers!

Our products have already begun to be imitated, but be careful of what you buy, your life may depend on it some day! We continually and thoroughly test all of our products to ensure that they live up to our strict standards. WSG is a company designed to save lives and we strive to keep our products affordable so every outdoorsman can be prepared. Though I enjoy being a member of a Search and Rescue team, the best case scenario is if we never need to be called out in the first place. Through sharing knowledge, practicing skills, and having the right supplies on hand, we can help everyone become more self reliant.

Sure we could outsource all our labor over seas as many other companies have done, it would increase our production rate, decrease our overhead and result in us making more money... so why don't we? We want to make the best possible products, with the highest level of quality and customer service possible. We want to maintain a close connection with our customers to get feedback and continually improve our products and designs. We want to create more American jobs as we continue a steady, controlled growth and foster a fun work environment to maintain enthusiasm for the job and encourage creativity. We want to build a company that we can be proud of.  A company that you can be proud to buy from.

After graduating from the University of Texas with degrees in Advertising and Business, Dustin actively avoided "getting a real job." Instead, he opted for alternative careers in the outdoors. He attributes his work and hobbies in a variety of industries to giving him well-rounded firsthand experience and ability to pull and combine techincal concepts from various fields that are now being applied to Wazoo designs. His "odd jobs" have included canopy tour zip-line manager, cave tour designer, exotic animal caretaker, and he has worked from Alaska to Peru to Swtizerland, and now lives aboard his 1966 Alberg 30 sailboat in Kemah, Texas. He loves getting high whether on a rope, mast, tree, or rock slab and feels most comfortable in small, dark, confined places, especially within the Earth's crust.

His innate desire to understand how everything works led him to earn degrees in both Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from West Virginia University. He dabbled in everything from data entry to deep-sea drilling tools and even as far as training astronauts. His last job was as an engineer at Johnson Space Center working with some of the largest vacuum chambers in the world. Needless to say that job 'sucked'. No matter how hard he tried to force himself to sit back and earn a good salary, life in a cubicle was slowly crushing him. Wazoo Survival Gear was the dream; unlimited design potential, researched, tested, and applied in the outdoors. Engineering gone wild!
